Thanks for the report, ekohl. I haven't been able to reproduce it, but
I'll take your word that it's possible to trigger. The only purpose of the
isinstance checks was to catch the handful of users who will use an
LDAPGroupType class instead of an instance. I wanted to provide a friendly
configuration error in that case. That said, a known blocking bug is more
compelling than a speculative configuration aid, so I took out the calls.
