There has been some focus on closing down 1.4 and releasing an alpha. As a
user, I absolutely want this code to go into that release. Is this ready
for testing? If so, I'm willing to apply it and give it a shot on
upgrading some data dumps of my projects. I note one thing I think we are
missing is a description of how to use this and information about backward
compatibility for the release notes.
