It is definitely possible to learn python and django together, in fact its a great way to get started. I would recommend though, spending some time really digging into python, the more you know the better you will be able to handle things that framework can't handle.

Many people learn Python at the same time as Django (it's not necessary to know Python beforehand), but you still have to learn Python if you want to be any good with Django.
