I have the very same problem and can't figure out what's wrong... First I created a profile for ipython and edited the ipython_config.py, which gets executed when I launch 'ipython'. But when I start manage.py shell or shell_plus it's not executed (I still get the Django iPython shell though). When I check for the python version it matches.
