Suggestion:
*Install Unipath with a:*
$ pip install Unipath
*and in settings file:*
from unipath import Path
PROJECT_DIR = Path(__file__).parent
STATIC_ROOT = PROJECT_DIR.child('static')
*Try in urls.py*
from django.conf.urls.static import static
from django.contrib.staticfiles.urls import staticfiles_urlpatterns
...
some imports
...
urlpatterns = patterns('',
...
some urls
...
) + static(settings.MEDIA_URL, document_root=settings.MEDIA_ROOT)
urlpatterns += staticfiles_urlpatterns()
