You can save files as part of models, for example using FileFields https://docs.djangoproject.com/en/1.7/ref/models/fields/#filefield
Or you can handle them manually, for example using default_storage https://docs.djangoproject.com/en/1.7/topics/files/ Regarding File Search, I don't know, never had to do that before.
