You may have already known this, but SQLite does support
transactions.  I'm impressed with how well it holds up for a
medium sized application.

In his "Definitive Guide to SQLite" Michael Owens reports
SQLite handling up to 500 tranactions/sec for 100 concurrent
connections in a web application.
