The ado_mssql backend is not officially supported at the moment.
However, have a look at tickets #3702 and #2358 for some ongoing work.
It doesn't seem to have settled down completely yet, but progress is
being made by those contributors.

Before you ask, there are currently no plans to merge these changes yet,
since they are acknowledged not to completely work by the main author
(Moof).
