Major changes to the Django template system really aren't open for discussion. We (the core devs) like Django templates the way they are; if you hunt through the archives, you should be able to find any number of discussions about why the template system is the way it is. If you like a different template system - great. Feel free to use it. However, the Django template language is here to stay, in pretty much exactly the form it is now.
