Personally, I'd prefer an integrated tool - but I acknowledge that this is personal preference. Best of luck - this isn't a small problem :-) The main reason I pointed out the wiki is that it highlights a well developed set of use cases. Call it a 'sanity check' on whatever designs and plans you may have. Regardless of whether your solution is integrated or standalone, I think you would be well served to be able to answer the use cases presented on that page.
