You should probably look at 'slug' and 'slug_field' in Django's
generic views. Since the username is unique, I guess that you can use
it as a slug:
('^(?P<slug>\w+)/', object_detail, {'queryset': User.objects.all(),
'slug_field': username})
(or something very close to this).
