Don't know if you're only looking for a django solution, but if you just need something that (AFAIK) works, this might do it:
http://www.futureofthebook.org/commentpress/ thin layer over Wordpress to allow comments similar to djangobook, but in the sidebar instead of fancy little popup windows.
