Hey, my background was in windows too, but... If you are doing work
that will ever require you to log in to remote boxes using ssh, you
might as well bite the bullet and learn VIM or emacs. (My vote is for
vim, but I don't want to start that war.) That way your favorite
editor will already live on any server you ever come across. A google
search for python and vim will show you lots of plugins or scripts
that can make things easier. Also, if your vim is compiled with python
support there is an omnicomplete feature that knows all of the python
standard library. VIM is brutal to learn, but really nice once you do.
If you give it a try, try running the vim tutor, it will teach you
most of the basics.
