I don't know why you'd need the sum filter; the for tag does
everything you'd want. See
http://docs.djangoproject.com/en/1.0/ref/templates/builtins/#for for
details of the {% for %} tag. You want something like::

{% for record in record_list %}
    {{ forloop.counter }}: {{ record }}
{% endfor %}
