If you're looking for re-usable apps, these two simple apps will get you started: django-attachments (on Google Code) django-uploads (on GitHub) They might also work together with django-massmedia, but I really haven't looked into it closely yet. For generating photo thumbnails I recommend sorl-thumbnail.
