Hi all,

First off thanks to everybody that made it to Stereophonik last night, we
had a blast! :)

Just a reminder for you to hit up Ascension tonight (Thursday), it just
might possibly be one of the last Ascensions ever! Tonight we've got a
very special guest DJ from London, DJ ZIAD (Tripoli Trax, Y2K, Remote
Recordings/UK), who will be spinning the "tougher end of house" for your
listening pleasure!
I've attached my original letter with Ascension details & Ziad's profile.

Hope to see you there!

Thanks,

Denise

>*--| ASCENSION | --* Thursday, Feb. 14, 2002. Located at Blake's on
>Telegraph (between Durant & Channing) in downtown Berkeley. As you avid
>followers know, Ascension's been going on for over 3 years now, and word
>has just been received that Blake's is losing its 18+ permit. Aaaah! This
>is bad news, people! It's either 21+ for Ascension, or no more
>Ascension!!! (sniff!) As of now, it looks like this week & next week's
>Ascension will be the last... two... ever! Humph. So, come and enjoy it
>while you can, I know I will be! Local residents Fuckwork and Dave Parlier
>will be kicking the party off right, then Andrew Phelan will hit the decks,
>and closing it up will be ZIAD and myself from 12-2 (dunno how we'll split
>it up just yet.) 18+, 21+ to drink, $5. This has always been one of my
>favorite residencies, so come & have one last hurrah with me this Thursday!
>
>* * * All right, one final thing, just want to give you some background
>info on ZIAD so you have a little knowledge behind your belt. Not only is
>this guy the producer of one of my favorite tracks of all time (his remix
>of "Spin Me Wild" by Freak and Mac Zimms), his track "Hold it Now" can be
>heard on my last mix tape, "The Orange Species." He's produced so many
>other tracks that I can't even begin to list his discography!
>
>He also mixed Tripoli Trax Volume Three, a mix CD compilation by the
>aforementioned label. Although released in 2000, this one's still bumpin'
>in my car! Also, you can check out some of his mixes online at
>http://www.puregroove.co.uk/dj_mixes.asp. He's done several for Remote
>Recordings. This is all I know off the top of my head, I know that there's
>a lot that I'm missing! (Sorry, Ziad!)
>
>Here's DJ ZIAD's profile, as stated in the Tripoli Trax Volume Three
>booklet. This was written in 2000, so it doesn't say what he's been up to
>since then, but it's a good start:
>
>----------------------------------------------------------------------
>
>ZIAD began DJing in 1987 with Pure Groove Promotions playing at various one
>off underground House and Techno parties.
>
>Since then, he has been responsible for the setting up of one of London's
>finest vinyl emporiums, Pure Groove Records (http://www.puregroove.co.uk).
>The successful shop, situated in Archway is also home to his co-owned
>Tripoli Trax.
>
>ZIAD's studio career began in the early 1990s recording under various
>guises, most notable Da Junkies. Da Junkies, a collaboration between ZIAD
>and Mick Shiner, have remixed the likes of Armand Van Helden's "Witch
>Doctor", Chrissy Ward's "Right and Exact" and Lemon 8's "Bells of
>Revolution" amongst others. He has also recently completed some remixes
>under his own name for artists Freak + Mac Zimms, Obsessive, Digital
>Express and most recently Lock 'n' Load as well as having two of his own
>singles released through Tripoli Trax.
>
>During the summer of 1994 Ziad took up a brief residency at Trade (London),
>returning there in 1997 and since then establishing himself as one of their
>key residents, touring to places as diverse as Rio, Malta, Paris and Ibiza.
>
>Last year he bagan a monthly residency at Trade at The Arches (Glasgow) as
>well as touring Japan (with Steve Thomas) and South Africa (with KGB). The
>latter to promote a Tripoli Trax (South African edition) CD he mixed
>himself.
>
>This year (2000), Ziad was the only Trade resident to DJ at both their
>Millennium parties, in London and Paris.
>
>Since then he has been busy DJing in Scotland, Ireland as well as touring
>extensively in Japan and South Africa.
>
>Most recently Ziad's talents have attracted the attention of the successful
>Sundissential club where he's DJed at both their Leeds and Birmingham
>nights.
>
>With forthcoming bookings for Sundissential plus Tripoli Trax tour dates as
>well as all his Trade commitments, this year's DJ schedule is already
>shaping up to be Ziad's busiest and best yet.
