and i made him watch it two of those times. :D i'm a star wars fan. hell, the first star wars was the first movie i had ever seen, and i have vague childhood memories of obi wan dying in the movie theater (i just dated myself ;P). :D
but, dammit, i was pretty darn disappointed by this episode. the actors were incredibly wooden, and the dialogue ? i'll let that speak for itself: "Sand is rough and it gets everywhere. It's not smooth and soft like you are." barf ! i've seen better lines in a skinemax soft-porn flick. some of the scenes made me cringe: e.g., watching natalie portman running up that grass hill almost made me wonder where the von trapp family are in this movie ... either that or it made me want to buy douche products for that not so fresh feeling. i was very disappointed. lucas made me cringe on some of these scenes. even his puns were god-awful (c3po, on having his head grafted onto a clone: 'oh, i'm not feeling like myself lately'; c3po, decapitated head being dragged: 'oh, this is such a drag !'; c3po, decapitated head landing near his body: 'oh, i'm beside myself'; i rest my case.) the only things that made the movie redeemable were the beautiful metropolis scenes (can we say blade runner/fifth element ?), some nifty asteroids scenes harking back to empire strikes back, and some of the most detailed aliens ever (always a joy in a star wars movie), right down to the reflection of the kamino aliens' eyes. and it was nice to see how anakin evolves into darth. it makes him very plausible and foreboding. oh yes, and ewan mcgregor is absolutely commendable. great alec guinness vocal inflections. it certainly was better than episode 1, but then again, everything was better than episode 1. when matrix beat episode 1 out of an academy award, i think it shook ILM down to its foundations. oh, well. i'll see episode 3 solely because, well, it's star wars. but i certainly am not a happy camper about it. on 5/20/02 4:29 PM, Glowstix at [EMAIL PROTECTED] wrote: > I've seen them all more than 5 times each..... ___________________________________________________________________ The D mailing list http://www.djdenise.com/
