well, our retaliation isn't simply "you kill us, we
kill you." we are supposedly fighting a
"humanitarian" war (whatever the fuck that means i
dont know), dropping food and first aid parcels as we
bomb taliban camps. hm, i always found that really
ironic. but at least our attacks aren't meant for
terrorizing and murdering innocent people in
afganistan. our targets are taliban memebers, not
civilians. we're trying to restructure their
government, and one has already been established in
kabul. although im not sure how useful that will be
either, considering the fact that we have already
missed targets, killed civilians and helped the
taliban into power in the 80s and look what it brought
us... i dont know the answer, but i know that we cant
just sit and do nothing.
here's what bugs me: our meddling in the middle east,
interest in oil, and involvement in the
palistinian-israeli conflict has brought us all this
drama. but what are we supposed to do? everyone
wants the US to change its foreign policies, i agree,
but when you are an international superpower, you are
going to step on people's toes. there's no getting
around it. you can't make everyone happy.
so then people say, "what were/are we even doing in
places like the philipines, kosovo, kuwait, somalia,
etc. why can't we fix problems at home first?" well
what about our role as one of the strongest countries
in the world? is it wrong for us to intervene when
other countries without the proper resources to defend
themselves are in trouble? i think the US has a
responsibility to help other places... but at what
cost?
