Don't people understand that once they are responsible for another person in  they should stop all extracurricular activities that they used to do when they only had themselves to look after? :-O How sad. Children are always paying for their parents mistakes...*sigh*

TORRANCE, Calif. (AP) - A 3-year-old Wilmington girl who ate crack cocaine found in her father's bedroom was in critical condition and wasn't expected to survive.

Victoria Elizarraraz was on life support and in a coma at Kaiser Permanente Medical Center in Harbor City, a family member speaking on condition of anonymity told the Daily Breeze newspaper. It wasn't known how much cocaine the girl ingested.

The girl's father, Guillermo Elizarraraz, was arrested as he tried to leave the hospital on Saturday afternoon, said Los Angeles police Capt. Andrew Smith. Seven other children in the Wilmington home were placed in protective custody.

Elizarraraz was booked for investigation of cruelty to a child likely to produce great bodily injury or death.

The girl must have believed she was eating candy when she found the cocaine wrapped in plastic in the bedroom, the captain said. Elizarraraz's girlfriend, whose name wasn't released, found her in the bedroom and took her to the hospital in full cardiac arrest.

Victoria's mother, who does not live in the home, and other family members kept vigil at the girl's bedside.
