actually, rose, my being republican has no indication of any sorts that says that i want war.
if that was the case, than 63% of the people in this country are republicans, because they are for this war ? actually, i think that shortly after the elections, a lot of americans were polled as to why they voted as they did, in producing the congress and whitehouse alliance, they replied 'i think our democrat leaders are acting too liberal.' if you'll notice, there is a gradual inclination to moderatism (the best route, imho. less friction, and we'd probably get more work done and less grandstanding in our congress) in fact, it truly troubles me that we are going into a war. it truly troubles me that our mutual friends may potentially be called back in to serve. it weighs heavily on my mind. unfortunately, our time of peace was irrevocably abolished on 9/11. it was something that we didn't do to be provoked. perhaps we were too complacent. you know, and maybe, in a way, it was our foreign policy (which, might i add, has carried across presidents of both sides of the political spectrum) that has made everyone pissed offf at us. let's face it, not many countries like us. those that are allied with us do so, only because it is a way to have some power. like those who allied themselves with the school bully (better to be with the powerful, than the victims, right ?). but, really. when i see things like this damned patriot act enacted, when i see muslims looked at with a sense of distrust, when i see arab americans who came to this country to make a living in this country, because they thought america would accept them with open arms, and to have the same things enacted onto them as the japanese had been done unto w/ the internment camps, well, it saddens me. but, who is at fault here ? was it the people who attacked us -- was it their fault for bringing this upon us ? or was it our own behavior w/ the rest of the world that brought this on ourselves ? you're right, anthony. it is sad to wonder what we have done, that makes so many countries hate us, to declare a holy war on us. is it our blatant materialism ? is it our 'me, me, me' philosophy ? our fascination with ourselves ? our self-narcissism ? i'll admit. sometimes, i look at our culture, and i despise it. we are spoiled. we are ungrateful. but, what do you expect ? we are still a very young country (226 years is not a long time, compared to some). in some ways, we act our age. as for dependency on oil, yes, i do believe that we're too dependent on the persian gulf, or hell, on oil, period. i, for one, take mass transit, to work. i do my part to help the environment. and i can't wait for an affordable hybrid car to come out. i am a naturalist at heart. but at the same time, i also value the choice of mankind. we may not like what other people do, but we cannot bash them over the head with our doctrine. i say, gentle persuasion is the best. but, in your face ads, like the SUV one won't work. it will only make people dig their heels in. think about how we reacted to those drug commercials. those 'where's the love' anti-rave ads. and, btw, considering how much toxic shock my saltwater tank has been through, i'm actually amazed at how sturdy the environment is. hell, my fish are still alive. :D and, btw, james, world peace will happen when asian parents actually friggin say 'i'm proud of you and love you'.
