Ah, SquirrelMail is configured to use localhost, but is running on a VPS, so 
localhost is not 127.0.0.1, it's the nic address. Makes things like this a real 
pain.

I'll try SM in sendmail mode. Or bite the bullet and do the upgrades.

SquirrelMail is not using SMTP on localhost.

There's no easy way to get that message signed.  The easy fix is to 
configure SquirrelMail to send through localhost.
