Are you talking about the compile of libmilter or of dkim-filter? It's
libmilter that needs to show it. Then you have to recompile dkim-filter
against the updated libmilter.
Look for AF_INET6 in /usr/include/sys/socket.h. That's where the family
number comes from. /etc/protocols is used elsewhere. On this FreeBSD
machine, AF_INET6 is 28 while ipv6 in /etc/protocols is 41.

Do you see a line like this in your sendmail.cf?
O Milter.macros.connect=j, _, {daemon_name}, {if_name}, {if_addr}
The MTA name is fed to the filter by this line. If you don't see an "O
Milter.macros." line that contains {daemon_name}, then the MTA
configuration needs adjustment so that it has that information in order to
make use of that feature of dkim-filter.
