Are you talking about the compile of libmilter or of dkim-filter?  It's 
libmilter that needs to show it.  Then you have to recompile dkim-filter 
against the updated libmilter.

Look for AF_INET6 in /usr/include/sys/socket.h.  That's where the family 
number comes from.  /etc/protocols is used elsewhere.  On this FreeBSD 
machine, AF_INET6 is 28 while ipv6 in /etc/protocols is 41.

Do you see a line like this in your sendmail.cf?

O Milter.macros.connect=j, _, {daemon_name}, {if_name}, {if_addr}

The MTA name is fed to the filter by this line.  If you don't see an "O 
Milter.macros." line that contains {daemon_name}, then the MTA 
configuration needs adjustment so that it has that information in order to 
make use of that feature of dkim-filter.
