Try setting MilterDebug to 9 and restarting the filter, then running it until the error occurs. There is in fact a way that the premature EOF can occur deliberately inside libmilter, but only if there's a protocol error between the MTA and the filter. With MilterDebug set high enough, such an error should be logged.
