This is unusual.  I'd need to see a reproduction or a debug trace output 
to be able to explain or fix it.  It basically means the filter made an 
illegal request of the library.

What operating system are you using?

I concur with SM, and in fact someone else recently posted the same 
problem.  The solution is to either (a) compile against a newer version of 
libmilter, which is available as part of the open source sendmail 
distribution, or (b) downgrade the milter protocol level that postfix is 
using to match the version of milter you used to compile the filter you're 
using now.
