Yes, the Thunderbird addon is lacking in error messages unfortunately.

As a first test, make sure the "REST URL" is correct. In the preferences
of Thunderbird/Attachments, remove the existing DL account and add a new
one.

To make sure the URL is correct, try accessing the REST URL with a
browser. You should get a username/password prompt from the browser
itself (this is not the same as the login page).

If you don't get a password prompt, or you get a server error, there is
probably a mis-configuration on the server.

Given that the normal web interface works fine, this is most likely a
very simple issue.
