Explaining From: rewriting is a good task by itself. Perhaps the draft would be easier to read it it introduced that workaround first, noting the problems it rises afterwards, and finally introducing alias retransmission.
I think John implemented something similar, but doing member to member only for recent messages rather than keeping a permanent alias table. See:
