Dear DMM WG Members:

A quick update on the status of this document.

Based on the feedback resulting from IETF Last Call, 3GPP-IETF Coordination
team, 3GPP CT Chair and few others, we have decided to move this document (SRv6
for Mobile User Plane - draft-ietf-dmm-srv6-mobile-uplane) on informational
track. This document is currently on track to become a Proposed Standard.
Meaning, with this change, this document upon IESG approval will be published
as an Informational RFC.

Why this change at this time? There was a general concern from few folks that
this document can be seen as IETF redefining a SDO defined interface. There
have been many discussions over the last 2 years on this subject. Though the
authors and the chairs have tried their best to ensure no part of the document
provides such hint, but this concern is not going away. We therefore thought at
this point of time, it is in everyone's best interest to move this document on
Informational track, and not delay the publication. It is very much possible,
at a future point of time, as with many IETF documents (e.g. MPTCP), the WG may
consider changing the status of the document. But that is a different
discussion and based on other considerations at that point of time.

The Int Area Director (Erik Kline), ex-Int Area director (Suresh Krishnan) and
the lead document authors (Satoru, Miya, Pablo, & Daniel) and WG chair (myself)
have met few times and have agreed to implement this change.

I will be updating the Shepherd note to reflect this change. I have also asked
the authors to post a new document reflecting this change, and additionally
removing any normative language.

Thank you for all the feedback.

- DMM WG Chairs
