Hello, I’m currently studying the DMTCP 2.5.0 release as a FT system for user-space applications in HPC environment.
I’ve noticed that stream sockets are being used for communicating between both the coordinator and application processes. The fact is that stream sockets, unlike UNIX ones, do not handle user permission of any kind. For example, someone can directly close the coordinator instance of another user on a front-end node. I tried it on my local machine with two users, both having DMTCP installed in their path. Is this feature on purpose ? Did you consider the idea of adding a security layer to ensure an authentication process in DMTCP ? Or maybe I simply missed something in the documentation. Thank you in advance for your help. Best regards, Julien Adam
