I'd say go for the proper monitors. I've been dabbling with computer speakers and an Audiophile 2496 card for a few months now. However, after going to a friend's house, who has monitors and various synths, but a cheap soundcard, I realized that I needed some monitors. Since you have cambridge soundworks I'm assuming you have something like an SBLive card. That should do fine until you pay off those monitors.
