we'll since this topic is around again and you all are looking for examples here's one of the tunes that I have used the Amen and the Tighten Up (your firefight break). I think it pretty much hits the mark of what you all are trying to achieve.
Binary System www.madbass.com/tunes/binary.ram I only use *specific* drum sounds (roughest parts) from different parts of the various multiple bars of the whole Amen break loop - then put them back together to they sound more like they are the original Amen phrasing. *important* ENVELOPING the samples well is crucuial to get it sounding "natural". Typically I leave the release fairly wide open so that it decays onto the next sample after it giving it a more natural sounding decay of the Amen drums. This is like why most Amens have a very full and over saturated sound. I also use a sample from the PROMO version of the Amen 45. It's hotter and nastier as it's distorted to begin with. Then I distorted the Amen through my analogue desk and sampled that version. Then I compressed & EQ'd the Amen sample with T-Rax. The Tighten Up sample is *1* sample of the ride - really small sample - but it will cut right through the highs of the Amen if EQ'd properly (or of your original source isn't shit to begin with). That's how I got it to sound the way it came out for Binary System maybe this will have helped some of you. Trust is dead on though - the pitch of the samples and the level of distortion combined with Enveloping and EQ'ing will give you the results that sound ramming - you just have to fiddle with it till it sounds good.
