i suggest bad company(bc records) or john b(beta records) both have a more ambient style yet enough edge not to bore you ----- Original Message ----- From: World Reknown Sent: Thursday, March 28, 2002 2:18 PM To: Drum & Bass Arena Discussion List Subject: [dnb-prod] RE: new member , questions 1. Good Producers imho: Polar, Calibre, Dom & Roland...feel free to replace
Roland with Optical or Keaton, High Contrast, Calyx, Teebee, Sonic & Silver or Sonic or Accidental Heroes, DJ Zinc... just a starter list....oh and Paradox
2.Current sound trends are ----> Disco and Electro sounds...
3.Peshay & High Contrast are fully into a house style score...they are making big big songs ala golden era trance...but if you are looking for less dance oriented stuff you have to check the Good Looking Records catalog home of what is now called atmospheric drum n bass...but used to just be called intelligent jungle (<---backlash fodder)
4.sample CDs...(<---BOO!) its on Vinyl dig dig...
5.some good labels...Certifcate 18, Hospital, Moving Shadow, True Playaz, Intercom Records, Subtitles, Metalheadz

Hi I`m a new member to this list and also to Drum& Bass, so naturally I have a few questions which I hope people can help me with . My main musical output is scoring TV Documentaries (Big Orchestral to Electronic Moods etc)I`ve recently discovered Drum&Bass and I`m going to get started on some tracks . My questions are : 1. Who are the current stars who i can listen to ? I just bought a 6 CD compilation and found most of it to be pretty lame apart from a couple of tracks by Peshay and Rantoul which were outstanding .
2.Are there current trends for sounds etc, certain tempo of loops etc "in" sounds or equipment to use ...? I`m running Logic audio , Gigastudio and have a fair few modules and hardware samplers.
3. The tracks by Peshay have quite an ambient full scored feel to them, how much in favour is this style as opposed to the very underscored hard edged tracks out there ?
4. What are the best sample CDs out there for this style ?
5. Who are the labels ?
sorry if this seems ignorant , I am new to the field and my listening background is still in the realms of Tangerine Dream .
thanks in advance
Paul
