I currently have 2 PC's in my setup, one of which runs Logic 5 (which I actually bought heh) on 2 Creamware DSP cards (1 Luna II, 1 Pulsar, 1 8 channel Creamware analog I/O box - 7 DSP's total.) I'm running Pulsar 2.04a (for reasons I won't mention hehe) which only runs on Win 98/ME. I'm trying to move the primary PC over to XP as my OS for audio, but the Pulsar 2.04a version limits me to 98/ME.
In order to change the OS to XP, I need to pull the DSP cards out of the main machine and put them in the 2nd one. My idea is I can just get a decent card in the main machine and run the I/O between the two via 2 ADAT connections. I'm thinking of picking up another Luna II with the ADAT upgrade, and run 16 channels of 24/44.1 over the lightpipe connections, or I might pick up another card (possibly a RME card or something else with very low latency.) I can get the Creamware cards down to 3-4ms pretty easily, plus that gives me a lot of flexibility (with the routing, plus I can move my analog I/O around between the 2 systems.) With the Creamware stuff I can have 16 channels moving over the ADATs and 8 more via the analog I/O box that I have. My question is this: Depending on the configuration I end up chosing, I'm kind of assuming I won't have sync problems if I don't get the sync upgrades. There are other options for audio cards that would either provide BNC sync now, or later as an upgrade. If I go the Creamware route, the grand expenditure is about $525 without sync, or about $750 with (this includes the sync upgrade for both machines.) Does anyone have any experience with syncing 2 ADAT-connected systems together? What sync problems can I expect from this setup if I don't' go for the sync upgrades? If these 2 machines (neither of which is overclocked or running non-standard PCI bus clocks) are running the same manufacturer's cards, should they (generally) stay in sync without the sync upgrades? Do ADAT clocks wander more than, say, SP/DIF clocks? I'd appreciate any suggestions - this is my first attempt at setting up an ADAT-connected configuration. -pooka --- Drum&Bass Arena Producers Discussion List http://www.breakbeat.co.uk You are currently subscribed to dnb-prod as: [email protected] To unsubscribe send a blank email to [EMAIL PROTECTED]
