I think you have the opposite problems... Dan can record but not play and you can play but not record...

I've got a similar problem coupled with a definite lack of knowledge as to why it happens..... CDs play normally through my speakers when in cooledit, but if I try and record any bits, no signal seems to be going in to cooledit - is this like what's happening to you??
