Yeh, I'm gonna go deep in Reason & Cubase soon and find out all those little things like routing to the desk and back into the computer...To be honest it's the first track I've done using only softwre so I'm just trying to get to grips with it at the mo - so cheers for the tip - I'm gonna give that a go later...

Cool... I usually do a combination of both in Reason...

i.e. Route each Redrum channel to a compressor (or a cubase compressor) end EQ etc.. And then run each channel into Cubase.. Then combine each mono track and any Stereo Recycle drum loops etc.. as a Group in Cubase... Works sweet as!!!

If you've got a multi IO soundcard you could route mono hits from Reason into Cubase.. Out of cubase, through your desk and then back in!
(but you probably already know that! And it sounds like a pain in the arse!!)...

cheers,

Nick

Nick,

It's funny you should mention that...Basically, when I usually do stuff on my sampler I split the kick, snare etc onto seperate mono channels on the desk and compress and eq each part separately, so the beats are in mono...But 'cos I did this tune in Reason I decided to not split the break up and I sent it to a stereo track and compressed and eq'd the break as a whole. I think that's perhaps why the break sounds quite seperated...

James,

Out of interest... Are your drum hits panned off center at all?

It doesn't sound bad in any way.. Just that the hits are pretty well seperated..

Did you apply a Stereo enhancer before you mastered it?

cheers,

Nick

Cheers for the comments Nick - I think I'm gonna do another mix of it and maybe another arrangement - try to give it a different vibe...

Wicked tune!!

It's difficult to judge the overall dynamics of it coz I'm listening on shoddy walkman headphones, but from what I can tell the mix is fine...

Maybe some more dynamic build ups and cuts etc.. Would raise the overall power of it..

Well done!

Here's a new tune I finsihed the other day, done using Reason & Cubase...Unusually for me I've put it up as an MP3 'cos I had a bit of spare time (dial up is sloooww...). So if you could have a listen and hit me back with some comments and thoughts that would be wicked...I'm especially interested in what people think of the sound of it as I didn't use my sampler...

BTW it's a little over compressed - that was due to me getting a little compressor happy whilst I was mastering it...

Here's the link - it's about 6MB...

Brian...Check it out and let me know what you think...

Cheers,

James
