How are different midi channels used. Is it because some synths can output
different sounds on different channels simultaneously?
MIDI channels are like channels on a TV, one channel for each programme ( patch ).
Why would you use
"Any"?
A good example of where you would use the "any" setting is when you are creating a drum track. On a drum track in Cubase the output channel in the drum map always overrides the channel setting in the track list, in other words the track output channel does not apply when you're doing a drum track. However for the MIDI channel settings within the drum map to apply you must set the channel in the drum track to "any".
