Structure, tonality and the 808 type sub bass all have an obvious dnb
reference

exactly - I don't. There's only 1 obvious reference to drum and bass in
that track (aside from the tempo and underlying rhythm). I wonder which
of
you guys picked up on it?

I remember when I first began devouring drum and bass (early 99), one of
my interpretations of the music was that it "sounds like the future".
And
just the other day, I was thinking.. heh.. the sound of the future is
now
the sound of the past. At least to me, you know? I hear Sniper now and
my
thoughts are "wow, this is from so long ago". Not that it isnt good -
its
great - I just lost interest in that sound, I guess.

These days, I rarely start tracks with a clear picture of what I want
to do. It seems more fun not knowing whats going to come out. In fact, I
love playing with instruments (software) where you can move a knob just
a
tiny bit and change the entire character of the sound. Check out the
fruityloops granulizer if you dunno what I'm talking about =). I used it
to make all of the synth sounds in that track (save for the tabla
drums).

These came from that religious ceremony they had at a stadium in new
york
after sept 11th. There were several performers, this guy was from tibet
(maybe?) and did some really nice accapella. I wonder what he's saying..

sure. you can grab the samples and an earlier .flp file here:

(I suppose anyone can grab them now)

also, if anyone is looking for the complete set of tabla drums, just
search on google for "tabla samples" and you'll probably encounter the
same samples I did.

while I'm blabbering, check out the program I'm working on:

I've been working on the visuals aspect of it almost exclusively..
haven't
added much sound functionality since late 2001, but it should be a very
neat toy once its more operational.

We used it for a music video (projector, screen, etc)
