Ive owned one before.
pros: multitimbral, loads samples via floppy, really easy interface.
cons: no filters, takes a while to load samples via floppy, only one stereo out, no effects. The onboard sequencer is a joke (no quantize, replays what you play with the keys).
Essentially its from the first generation of phrase samplers, and has all the features (and lack of) youd expect from such. The newer generation of phrase samplers such as the zoom sampletrak and the boss sp 303 offer many more features (effects, resampling) for the same price. Bottom line, get the s20 if its cheap, but if you can find a used zoom or boss sp303, get one of those instead.
Quick note tho: The two things the s20 has that the zoom/boss machines dont is multitimbrality and response to velocity, but the wealth of features on the newer machines make up for that IMO. Also , do NOT, I repeat, do NOT waste your money on the weakest phrase sampler of the bunch, the Yamaha SU10, unless someones unloading one for like 50 bucks ( I know somone who just kept all his kick drums on it). ---
