Hi Just experiment a, you can't break anything and you'll soon find settings that sound good b, you'll learn the reasons why things happen and how you can get creative (esp with valve or tube comps) - it may take longer than dialling in someone elses settings but learning to make music well does take time...
Or have a look in the manual for your compressor - they usually give a rough guide (but usually apply more to pop or rock)....
