i took the amp apart and took out the knob... but i ended up cleaning it with wd-40 (this was before i saw any replies to my post). surprisingly, it cleaned it pretty well, and there's no more static... maybe moisture had gotten on the contacts and developed some rust or something, or just dust, but whatever it was, it ain't there no more. once again, wd-40 solves yet another problem. i guess professional electrical contact cleaner would be the way to go for you, tom, since i wouldn't wanna do anything risky to a juno if i had one, but my amp is cheap and i figured i could just replace the little knob part anyway, so i just went for it.
