i got a copy of NI's FM7 soft synth and i really dig it but can't wrap my head around the process of programming your own patches. i understand the concept behind fm synthesis but it hasn't been tremendously helpful to me. with an analog synth i have a pretty good idea of what knobs correspond to what i.e. turn up the cutoff for brighter tone, resonance for a more agressive, 'tweaky' sound, etc...unfortunately i really dont know where to begin with this strange device. does anyone have any tips? the presets are good if you put enough fx on em but i want more.
