I think this falls more under the category of neat idea than anything else,
especially since it's targeted towards gamers instead of pro audio.
It's for the peeps who don't want to spend $500 on a tube amp, but would
buy a $200 motherboard with one built in. I fall into that category
until I'm no longer a poor student, and I really wouldn't mind having the
improved audio quality for my mp3 listening and gaming. I like the
integrated noise cancelling on the motherboard too, one of my current problems
is that I suspect my current soundcard is picking up noise from inside
the computer.

I find this to suspect still. Doesn't
feel right. I think a better solution is to get a quality D/A Converter
from there run it through a proper tubed amplifier into some quality speakers.
This will yeild the results you are looking for. Integration into your
motherboard is to risque, especially if the chipset they used starts to
generate problems within your apps or peripheral devices.

From what I can gather, the tube is a part of a built in preamp on
the motherboard. There is an integrated sound card, but the preamp
has inputs, so you can run your own sound card or anything else you want
through the tube (woot!). According to their specs, the tube has
a MTBF (mean time between failure) of 4000-5000 hours, so easy replacement
is a must. I can't find anything on the actual model of tube they
use, but I'd guess they would want to use off the shelf components, rather

Other tasty features include support for running your audio out the front
of the computer breakout box style, and a built-in S/PDIF interface.
I think I just might have to look at upgrading my system now.
