I haven't used a 1604 before but I can't praise the ProMix01 enough. Fair enough the sound quality might not have that warm 'Mackie' sound, but the automation, scene memories, parametric eq, programmable effects and dynamics more than make up for this. The ability to work on up to 50 tunes at once, with instant recall of every paramter, really frees up yer creativity and doesn't restrict you to finishing one tune before starting the next.
If there's two problems, I'd say that the spdif output being set at 48khz/16bit is a tad annoying, but you can always convert that within CoolEdit/Wavelab and there's no upgradability (unlike the 01V) but you have to balance this with the cost. I payed 350 for mine and nothing comes close at that price IMO. You won't be sorry! I have used both extensively. I'm still using 1604s at my day job. I'll never go near a promix again. - The 01 converters sound like pure ass. The internal mixing sucks the life out of your dynamic range to boot. - The first 8 inputs are XLR only. - The spdif out is 48khz/16bit only - Interfacing it with a DAW was hardly worth the bother - there were so many workarounds that it was never much use as a fader UI. - The digital effects are very mundane to the extreme - chorus, cheap reverb. there's only two. - Limited number of send (3, including the internal buses) - It weighs at ton, and has a massive foot print. - Before I knew better I had to replace two of the preamps, one of the D/A converters, and something in the cpu. These were all on >separate< occasions. Get a 1604. It won't sound amazing, but it will sound amazing compared to a mackie. If you can't afford to spend more, it's as good as it gets. You might want to think about getting an external preamp for vocals and other 'up front' and mic'ed stuff. bIz ----- Original Message ----- From: "Jon O' Connor" <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> To: "Drum & Bass Arena Discussion List" <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> Sent: Thursday, October 10, 2002 3:15 PM Subject: [dnb-prod] Re: Is It Worth It? > lol @ milo! what is better? a mackie 1604 mixing desk or a Yamaha Pro Mix 01 > digital mixng desk? > > > >From: [EMAIL PROTECTED] > >Reply-To: "Drum & Bass Arena Discussion List" > ><[EMAIL PROTECTED]> > >To: "Drum & Bass Arena Discussion List" <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> > >Subject: [dnb-prod] Re: Is It Worth It? > >Date: Thu, 10 Oct 2002 12:11:17 +0100 > > > >no, that's a terrible deal.
