You probably should start off with something like acid.
It's probably the most user-friendly piece of software out there for getting started (there are actually a TON of pros that use it as well).It'll sync your loops etc. etc.

following my previous email about creating drum loops, how do I go about creating a tune, lets say a nice little piano tune or a choir, and then lay it over the drum loop.
 
using just software, what program coudl I use to create the tune to the same bpm as the drum loop???
I suppose the same method would be used to create a bass line....
