I have to say that I agree with you. I am using REASON 2.0 right now and I might go back to Fruity. I like the Buzz inport option for FREE FX.(Free is GOOD) The FX you can DL with Fruity Loops are much better then the FX in REASON. Even the stock FX are better. For exp. Fruity Comp vs REASON comp... The Reason Comp sucks hard. The only way to get better FX in programs like REASON is to combine it with a program like LOGIC/CuBASE/Nudedo/Sonar. ( I think I spelled that right?) Very costly in the short term. Plus if you do not have LOGIC/CuBASE/Nudedo/Sonar you can not use VST/VSTi or DX/DXi plugins. So IMHO ACID PRO 4.0 plus Fruity Loops3.55 is the most cost effective way to do allmost any kind of digital music production.

I hope that helps,

IMO, the main disadvantage to fruityloops is its playlist

I agree.  Its a pain in the ass to do change-ups and one-shot fx sequencing, since you have to build a new pattern for each.  However, waiting to do change-ups/variations/sound fx sweetening AFTER your basic track is built is a sound approach anyway (productive artists typically work from general to specific). Im not trying to defend Fruity as perfect for everyone, nor insist everyone work my way- Im just making a point about how limitations can be used to actually help the process by providing a framework, and in many cases inspire creativity and progress the artform.  A Mixer article recently with Moorcheeba stressed this- they will often limit themselves intentionally in order to challenge their thinking, with the search for solutions leading to creative innovation. For ages artists from all disciplines have done the same.  ;)

BTW, I wouldnt defend many other programs with such vigor- the only reason I would recommend working with the limitations/pains of Fruity Loops is that they are, to my mind, so few of them.  The ease of use, limited CPU usage, and other boons of this brilliant program are worth the trouble.  It really does give back what you put into it, not to mention the freekin thing IMPORTS BUZZ MACHINES!!!!  lol   :)
