I don't want to sound harsh since I would've agreed with you at one time, but look at it this way.  You can spend hours and hours trying to make a good Spanish guitar sound using soft synths, but in the end, you'll probably end up with something that sounds passable, but is still a synthetic approximation of what you want.  Great, you've got one string sound, now you'll have to spend hours and hours more trying to get a different articulation.  Repeat maybe twice more and you'll have enough different guitar sounds to make a good, yet still artificial sounding riff.  Congratulations, you've just spent a week frustrating yourself, wouldn't that time have been better spent actually writing the music?  You'll probably have to spend that much time coming up with totally twisted bass sounds, but your songs will take forever if you don't free yourself up by sampling things that are best not synthesized.

Since you're not writing trance, you'll almost have to learn to love sample-based synthesis.  I spent a lot of time trying to get synthesizers to do what I wanted them to, but I just ended up frustrated (though a thorough knowledge of syntheses techniques is certainly helpful).  Those clean, electronic sounds are great for housetrance, but it's 10x easier to make something sound organic if you run a sample through a few plugins and modulations.  Try sending a few drum loops and basic bass noises through Waves Enigma and/or Ohmforce Predatohm (while playing with that innocuous-looking feedback knob) and I'll give you double your warez back if you aren't 100% satisfied with the results.  :-)
