I've got a berringer tube composser comming just for that purpose. I'll post a review after i get it, from the looks of it, i think its one of the nicer ones out there for the price $199.

List massive:
I'm currently doing all my recording at line level into my CL Extigy. I understand I could benefit from an outboard mic preamp/compressor to get the signal to a more acceptable level and add some much-needed analog character. I was wondering if anyone could make a recommendation for a piece of gear that would serve this purpose. While I don't have a maximum price per se, and I understand you get what you pay for, I am very much on a budget. Any ideas? From what I understand Joe Meek makes a compressor specifically for my needs but further research hasn't turned up much. Peace.
