Would that be an extremely long trial ? :) I'd be interested in that.. -----Original Message----- From: Andy Abang [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED]] Sent: 09 January 2003 19:03 To: Drum & Bass Arena Discussion List Subject: [dnb-prod] Re: New set up I have a um... trial version of Logic Audio Platinum 4.7 for PC... If you have a high speed internet connection I can post it on my site for you to download maybe... I got hooked up with half a gig of free webspace so I'm sure it's within the realm of possibility :) Let me know. ~Andy -----Original Message----- From: Daniel Norman [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED]] Sent: Thursday, January 09, 2003 8:04 AM To: Drum & Bass Arena Discussion List Subject: [dnb-prod] Re: New set up Hi Lee Nice to know that Kontakt is good. Were there any aspects of it where a hardware sampler might be more useful (i'm guessing not)? Might well get a fast PC, Event card and use that or try a second hand G4 and Logic/EXS sampler. Is there any way to get copies of Logic Platinum software for the PC anymore - short of buying a Mac, i'll have to use Cubase instead ;-( Laters Dan PS - you now with Mixnblen? -----Original Message----- From: [EMAIL PROTECTED] [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED]] Sent: 09 January 2003 13:26 To: Drum & Bass Arena Discussion List Subject: [dnb-prod] Re: New set up Hi Dan, I've just bought a new soundcard on recomendation from this list (Gina 24 - thanks rene !!!) I've got the full h/w setup but i've always been interested in s/w for vst fx. I used Kontakt for the 1st time the other day and I must say im very impressed - easy to use and very flexible. The FM7 synth is also an amazing piece of software. They both hook up to logic 5 (PC) fine. No problems in the setup. Im still going to use my mackie desk for mix downs - I cant imagine mixing down inside a pc - the thought turns my stomach !! Its a bit of a step into the unknown, but i think its the only way given that i need a much smaller setup. Has anyone used Kontakt? Any views? In a way, i'm not that bothered about a synth (but having the option of vsts etc is cool), I would just like to be able to use a killer software sampler to build tunes from samples and use Logic if possible (although thats not easy given they don't make it for PCs anymore). Can you use Kontakt with Cubase/Logic and mixdown internally using the audio processing of Cubase/Logic eq/compressors etc to a wav for mastering with T Racks etc. Thanks in advance Cheers Dan -----Original Message----- From: Hustler [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED]] Sent: 09 January 2003 12:02 To: Drum & Bass Arena Discussion List Subject: [dnb-prod] Re: New set up I started using a PC setup last year, after producing with hardware for years. I still use the Mackie 8bus and Akai S3000, but I have made tunes with just Cubase (5.1 not SX), Halion and some VSTs. The main difference when using s/w only and hardware, is I obviously lose the warmness of the Mackie 8bus on mixdowns. A lot of the time, I'm just being anal and most people can't tell the difference (especially if you've mastered using T-Racks or O-Zone). I use a Yamaha DSP Factory soundcard (the one with the Yamaha 02 DSP) for software mixdowns by the way. What going to a s/w setup has given me though, is more choices. Instead of buying a new synth for 800, to get some new sounds, I can get hold of a good quality VST (my choice VSTs being anything by Native Instruments, Virsyn, RGC Z3ta & Pentagon and Albino - full version). Downsides of using s/w (for me anyway), once or twice a VST patch hasn't work as intended, they can be a little fiddly to use, (especially Absynth, crap UI, great sounds) & some VST's are CPU hungry (but this hasn't really bothered me; yet). My advice would be to get the fastest PC you can afford (to save you from CPU grief) and the best soundcard you can afford. Then use Ray's advise for the s/w. ----- Original Message ----- From: Daniel Norman To: Drum & Bass Arena Discussion List Sent: Thursday, January 09, 2003 10:45 AM Subject: [dnb-prod] Re: New set up I read that Reason is not open to VSTs or third party stuff, so I was wondering if anyone purely used Logic and the EXS sampler and ES1 synths etc combined with a wave editor (or Cubase and Halion for that matter). Trust - didn't you post recently to say that your entire setup was based around a laptop and a MOTU firewire audio box - what software did you decide on? If it was someone else, apologies. What does it sound like compared to when they used hardware and what are the downsides? As for proces, you can get (koff koff)_demo_ software online easily on something like Kazaa, saving you a grand easy. --- Drum&Bass Arena Producers Discussion List http://www.breakbeat.co.uk You are currently subscribed to dnb-prod as: [EMAIL PROTECTED] To unsubscribe send a blank email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] --- Incoming mail is certified Virus Free.
