ok, can you record other external stuff? just not through your s/pdif?
well recording external ish into logic is like this...
in the environment, there are audio strips, not audioinst...
there should be a rectangle with 'input 1', or 'input 1/2' or something like
that...
now if you enable that track for recording, (by clicking on rec, glows red)
then if you hit record in logic, it will record the audio taken in through
audio1 etc...

now if you wanna record through your spdif, you just have to make sure you
have the input on the audio strip is set to your spdif input. and this might
be something you have to look at in your sound card settings...

what sound card?

Subject: [dnb-prod] My Emu jus doesnt like Logic!!!

Hey people, i have a problem! Been scratchin my head for ages on this one!

I am trying to record audio from my Emu ESI2000 within Logic 5.3 via the
S/PDIF digital connections. I have an M-Audio Audiophile 2496 PCI card. I
can play and hear sound from my sampler no problem, but i just cant seem to
record the audio within Logic.
I know ive got to somehow select the digital input from my card on the
channel i want to record on, similar to that of when you select a VST
instrument such as the ES1 or EXS24 but i cant find anything within logic to
do this!!!

PLEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEASE HELP, the first one to solve this puzzle will get
a complimentry NUDE pic of the missus ;-)
