I'm biased cause Logic Audio Platinum 5.5 and Reason 2.0 are all I use now,
but both of those are excellent in their own ways IMO. Don't limit yourself
though. Keep in mind with Logic Audio, any versions past 5.5 will be
available solely for Mac users, and it's pretty highly regarded right now.
But there's lots of good programs. Cubase, Protools, etc...

If you're new to this though... really this is all just gonna be a bunch of
bullshit rhetoric... you have to find programs that have an interface that
YOU like personally and then you need to know the limitations of each... so
read a lot of reviews... and remember it's good to use a couple or even
several different programs because they all process sound differently, and
some do certain things better than others.

Not being a Mac user though, I guess I can't really give you the best
advice, but maybe my rambling will help anyhow. :)
