Maybe check the lowest frequency of the commercial tune, then cut yours
off around the same

Following on from this,

I am normally fairly happy with my tunes once they are mixed down and i
get all the comp/mastering and eq techniques, but I am finding it hard
to fine tune my basslines to a level where they doesn't distort
speakers, but are actually audible on most systems (like most d+b
tunes).

I find it sounds ok on my Absolute Two monitors, but in the car/lounge
it is just a very low level distortion or smooth but too low, whereas a
commercial D+B track sounds pretty much the same on both....

I use a Novation Supernova 2 and the low end is awesome, but I can't
seem to get the bass to fit, its either all or nothing. I've been
layering 2 basslines together to try to get the upper to come out, but
the sub bass tends to need taming by about 10db on the compressor and
still gets out of hand or its inaudible...

I've tried tuning the patch and filtering etc, but just as it sounds ok
its then not quite right on other systems...

Any tips for a smooth healthy b-line (not angry reece mids, just a
quality Total Science/Digital/Paradox type thing)

I'm pretty much repeating what Andy and Josh are saying, as in always
use the best quality samples, and take some mid out if it's sounding too
muddy.  I've been using some of the waves eq's (VST plug ins) which are
giving me pretty good results. Taking this a bit further, it's important
as well that parts in the track also have their own space.  If you've 
got parts in the same frequency range they can be fighting for space.
This can be helped by sharpening up the eq's to give them their own
specific space, and then cutting less important frequencies in the
sound.

Could be one of two things AFAIK -

1) improper eqing

2) crappy audio engine

I don't know how good Fruity Loops' audio engine is, but it may just not
process sound as well as other programs. I had a big problem with
muddiness
at first too. Of course, I didn't know shit about EQing back then
either.

I don't know how familiar you are with mixing down but being pretty new
to
it myself i've had a bunch of problems dealing with muddiness.

A good guideline to go by for making your mix less muddy:

MOST ELEMENTS CAN STAND TO HAVE A NOTCH TAKEN OUT OF THE MIDRANGE

FREQUENCIES. Usually stuff gets muddy around here.

Sorry if I didn't tell you anything you already know. Tell us a little
more
about the steps you take to do a mixdown and maybe i (or someone else
here)
can be of more assistance!

Hello there forum!!!!

I have a question if anyone would be decent enough to answer.

Production wise I use fruityloops and vst plugins to create the
sounds I am after but the sound from the overall mix I find is
quite muddy and not so crisp sounding.

Is there any one thing that I should be paying particular attention
to in so far as the mixdown goes or do you feel it is a problem
inherent with fruityloops?

Any comments would be most appreciated.
